Wild Hogs: One of the most popular spots around Cedar Rapids for bikers to hang out
Wild Hogs in Walford is one of the popular spots close to Cedar Rapids for bikers to hang out. They are associated with quite a few biker events during the summer, and a lot of rides use this place as one of the stops. This is also one of the larger music venues in our area, and during the summer months, they have been known to get some big names on stage here.
I went around back for some pictures of the stage and noticed they were doing some construction. It turns out that Joe Nichols is coming soon, and they needed a bigger stage.
That reminded me of when Tracy Byrd played here last year and ate some of the nachos that Wild Hogs is famous for. I decided that would be a great idea for some food pictures, and I got the Wild Hog pork loin to go along with it.
The Tenderloin
From the very first time I was exposed to tenderloins around here, I always thought it would be a great idea if somebody were to add cheese for a little more flavor. I never knew such a thing existed outside of a special request, but today I found one at Wild Hogs.
The Wild Hog pork loin is a tenderloin that is available in a hand-breaded or grilled form. It has ham, bacon, cheese, and their proprietary slop sauce. The bacon is really a good addition since it adds some fat and flavor that is normally not present in the super-lean pork tenderloins that I have found around here.
They also have a sandwich called the Hog Wild, which has pulled pork. I have tried the pulled pork here too, so I wouldn’t have been disappointed if I accidentally got that one by mistake.
Best Nachos in the area
The nachos at Wild Hogs are very well known around this area. The pictures show what they consider to be a half order, and I have honestly never seen a full order in person.
They are covered in olives, onions, tomatoes, shredded cheese, queso, and taco meat. I normally get the kind with pulled pork and add a little barbecue sauce to it.
If you aren’t in the mood for nachos or tenderloins, I would recommend trying the pizza.
I used to drive by this place every day going back and forth to work, and I would always see bikers during the summer. They have a pretty big facility with plenty of parking. So, if you are coming to this area from out of town, you will want to be sure to plan a stop at Wild Hogs to meet some fellow bikers and have plenty of room to stretch your legs and walk around.
Live music is a regular thing here, so you definitely need to check out Wild Hogs online to see the upcoming schedule of events.
A note from Will Carter, The Ambassador of Flavors:
“This is one of many biker bar reviews I will be doing on a weekly basis. The goal is to promote local bars as destinations for motorcycle enthusiasts. These reviews will be part of an online resource created to help bikers find bars with good food and entertainment.”
