Forty-seven-year-old Police Officer Shawn Miller of the West Des Moines Police Department lost his life in a car-motorcycle collision at the intersection of Highway 169 and Interstate 80 in De Soto in Dallas County at around 1:30 p.m. last Wednesday, August 3.
Sergeant Nathan Ludwig of the Iowa State Patrol said that a car, driven by 38-year-old Jeanette Keiffer, was turning onto the I-80 ramp at De Soto when the motorcycle, driven by Miller, collided with its passenger side.
Chief Shaun LaDue, who identified Miller’s body, was in the area of the accident because he was attending court proceedings at the Dallas County Courthouse for a hit-and-run case.
