What is ABATE of Iowa Lobby Day?
ABATE of Iowa Lobby Day is an annual event in which members of the Iowa chapter of the American Bikers Aiming Toward Education (ABATE) travel to the State Capitol in Des Moines to meet with their elected representatives and discuss issues facing motorcyclists in the state.
Lobby Day provides an opportunity for ABATE members to share their opinions and experiences with the legislators and to advocate for policies that will improve the safety, enjoyment, and legal rights of motorcyclists in Iowa.
Why should bikers attend ABATE of Iowa Lobby Day?
Democracy only works when you make your voice heard. Lobby Day presents an opportunity for Bikers to make sure their voices, opinions, and thoughts are heard directly by their elected representatives. When you pre-register, you’ll be provided with a printed badge when you arrive and be shown pictures of your Representative and Senator. You’ll also have an opportunity to pick up a copy of the ABATE talking points handout.
Do I have to pre-register or can I just show up to Lobby Day?
We recommend you pre-register so that we can provide a badge for you, but pre-registration for ABATE of Iowa Lobby Day is not required to attend. If you don’t pre-register, we ask that you write your name on a blank badge and add your name to the sign-in sheet.
What should I wear to ABATE of Iowa Lobby Day? Is there a “dress code?”
The appropriate attire for ABATE of Iowa Lobby Day is the classic Biker attire (jeans and leathers) but casual business is also fine. Bikers should avoid wearing clothing with any offensive images, language, or excessive profanity.
