Mason City local sentenced to 25 years for fatal motorcycle accident

Forty-seven-year-old Mason City resident Victor Rivera was sentenced to 25 years for the Class B felony homicide by vehicle after fatally striking a motorcycle while intoxicated and driving away from the scene, the Daily Nonpareil reported on May 4.

At least 17 1/2 years must be served before Rivera may request parole.

Jefferson Davis was killed on November 22, 2014 when his motorcycle was hit by Rivera’s vehicle. Rivera was sentenced in the Cerro Gordo County Courthouse by District Judge Rustin Davenport.

According to Joslyn Davis, Jefferson’s daughter, Rivera claimed the life of “a father, a son, and a friend.”
