Taco Depot III- Out with the old, in with the new.
A while back, I was driving around the southwest side of Cedar Rapids, when I noticed that the old Hardee’s building was being turned into a Taco Depot. I’m familiar with the Taco Depot on 1st Avenue, so I was very curious what this one would be like.
I got my chance to find out today, because now their new location is open for business. It is their 3rd and biggest location. I ordered an assortment of tacos just to see what kind of food they have to offer.
Are the tacos tasty?
If you are looking at the picture above, the tacos are in the same order that they are on the menu [click menu image to enlarge]. Starting on the left, we have Taco Ramirez, Taco Depot, Taco Campechano, Taco Gabacho, Seafood Taco, and Veggie Taco.
The Taco Ramirez- An Authentic Mexican street taco
The Taco Ramirez is an authentic Mexican street taco with a corn tortilla. I just got back from Mexico myself, and this particular taco was very close to what I had while I was in Mexico. The other tacos came with flour tortillas.
The Taco Compechano- Loaded with flavor
My personal favorite was the Taco Campechano. It was loaded with chorizo and queso, and that combination gave it a lot of flavor.
Not Just Tacos
If you aren’t into tacos, they have appetizers, burritos, quesadillas, and a few other items that you would expect to find at most Mexican restaurants. They also have a bar, so if you need beer or margaritas, I’m sure they can hook you up.
This is their third and largest location. Judging by the parking lot configurations, this would be the most biker-friendly location. There is plenty of room to park bikes, and you could bring a few friends along as well. This location is right on the edge of town, in the Kirkwood Community College area. You could easily ride in and out from Swisher or Ely without dealing with any major traffic. There are lots of scenic open roads nearby, so if you happen to be out riding, and you don’t want to go far into town just for food, this would be an ideal stop.
A note from Will Carter, The Ambassador of Flavors:
“This is one of many biker bar reviews I will be doing on a weekly basis. The goal is to promote local bars as destinations for motorcycle enthusiasts. These reviews will be part of an online resource created to help bikers find bars with good food and entertainment.”
