Sag Wagon: A different kind of motorcycle-friendly business
The Sag Wagon in Cedar Rapids is a different kind of biker-friendly business. That’s because it’s primarily known as a destination for the pedal bike crowd. However, they do welcome motorcycles, and the upcoming review was done based on a recommendation from a Harley owner.
Order whatever you want, as long as it's a Hot Dog or Pizza.
The food at Sag Wagon has changed drastically since the most recent change in ownership. The new menu has a lot of options centered around hot dogs. They kept the pizza from the old menu, but it has been noticeably improved.
Since I was sharing all this food with Joe Sample, we ended up getting a lot of food. We got a pizza with pepperoni and sport peppers, along with a couple of their unique style hot dogs. One hot dog, known as "The Foghorn Leghorn," had some oven-baked chicken strips, cheese, honey mustard, and pickles. The other one had smoked bacon, fried onions, queso cheese, and pickled jalapenos.
Queso on a Hot Dog?!
Here are my initial thoughts. First off, putting queso on a hot dog was a genius idea. Another thing, cooking the chicken strips in a pizza oven rather than a deep fryer actually made them taste better. After all, deep-fried chicken strips are extremely common here, and they are never really good.
I was very skeptical of this hot dog menu when I first looked at it, but I left very happy. Joe was pretty impressed with the food as well.
Sag Wagon in Cedar Rapids- Seeing Beyond the Great View
I found the Sag Wagon not long after I moved to Cedar Rapids a few years ago. The first thing that really impressed me about the place was the view over the lake. There just aren’t many places in Cedar Rapids where you can hang out while being close to water, and this is one of them. They also have a large fire pit outside, and I have personally been here during the colder months when the fire was blazing.
"So much room for activities!"
As Joe mentioned in the video, they have cornhole/bags, lots of outdoor seating, and a volleyball court. They were known to have Giant Jenga in the past, but I couldn’t find the Jenga blocks today. During the summer, this place is usually packed with bicycles later in the day. Sag Wagon is a very popular destination for bicycle rides around Cedar Rapids, and there are many scheduled rides starting and ending here on a weekly basis.
Another attraction at the Sag Wagon is live music on most weekends. Their Facebook page is updated with all the latest events, so be sure to check out what they have going on.
Though motorcycles are much less commonly seen than bicycles here, this is a very biker-friendly business. There is plenty of parking area for motorcycles, and the food and beer selection is superb. There is a lot more outdoor seating than indoor seating, and the outdoor experience is the biggest reason I would choose to stop at Sag Wagon.

A note from Will Carter, The Ambassador of Flavors:
“This is one of many biker bar motorcycle-friendly restaurant reviews I do on a weekly basis. The goal is to promote local bars and restaurants as destinations for motorcycle enthusiasts. These reviews are part of an online resource created to help bikers find bars with good food and entertainment.”
