Advocacy group claims Iowa has some of the worst traffic laws

Washington, D.C.-based consumer, health, and safety rights group Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety declared that the state of Iowa has some of the worst traffic safety standards in the United States and they are pushing for legislative changes, according to thegazette.com.

According to the organization, Iowa only has five of the 14 optimal traffic safety laws needed by a city. In its 2015 Roadmap Report on Highway Safety, the group stated that having these laws can help lessen fatalities and injuries along major roadways. Catherine Chase, the group’s vice president of governmental affairs, suggested lawmakers start crafting legislation for requiring ignition interlocks for convicted drunk drivers, booster seats for children aged four to seven, seat belts for rear seat passengers, and an all-driver texting ban.
