Iowa state officials recently reported that more people have died during vehicle accidents on state roads in 2014 than in 2013, but the fatality rates are still significantly lower than 2001 statistics.
According to a report from The Des Moines Register on December 27, 319 people perished on Iowa state and federal roads in 2014, a decrease of 28% from 2001’s 446, but a slight increase from 2013’s 317.
The assessment from the 2014 fatality reports showed that 29% of the people who lost their lives in the traffic accidents were not wearing their seat belts at the time of the incident, and 56% of the deceased victims were vehicle drivers.
Motorcycle drivers and passengers both face a greater risk of accident than people riding closed vehicles. Although the consequences of a motorcycle accident can be devastating, there are options for legal recourse for victims or victims’ families.
