The civil suit filed against 23-year-old Charles City, Iowa resident Stephanie Mercer, who allegedly caused the death of 66-year-old Nora Springs local David Crowe after she struck his motorcycle in May near Nora Springs, will continue despite the dismissal of involuntary manslaughter charges against her, the WCF Courier reported on September 26.
The lawsuit, which was filed in Floyd County District Court on August 12 by Crowe’s widow 66-year-old Nancy Crowe, claims that Mercer’s negligence resulted in the wrongful death of her husband. She is seeking compensation for the loss of Crowe’s life plus an amount that will compensate her for the loss of companionship.
The criminal charges were dismissed by Assistant Iowa Attorney General Scott Brown. Mercer agreed to plead to a citation with enhanced penalties that has yet to be determined.
