Lyman motorcycle accident kills one

A motorcycle accident that occurred in Utah on Friday, August 12th, proved fatal for 58-year-old Bradley Hansen. The accident happened on Interstate 80 at around 6:45 am.

According to preliminary investigations, Hansen was driving a 2014 Honda motorcycle eastbound on I-80 in lanes that had been altered due to construction. While trying to ease back into the normal lanes, Hansen collided with two barrels and a large wooden sign. Hansen fell off his motorcycle after it had veered into a ditch.

Hansen was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, but it wasn’t enough to save his life. He was flown to the University of Utah Hospital where he passed. This was the 17th motorcycle crash that has taken a life in Wyoming so far this year.

 


Grundy County motorcycle crash claims one life

A motorcycle accident that occurred along Highway 20 about 3 miles east of Dike in Grundy County, Iowa claimed the life of one individual and caused injuries to another. The accident happened on Thursday, August 4 at approximately 3:51 p.m.

The deceased was identified as 45-year-old Huntington, Indiana resident Roxanne Covey, who died as a result of her injuries on Saturday, August 6. According to preliminary investigations made by the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, Roxanne Covey and 46-year-old Al Dwayne Covey, also of Huntington, were riding along the highway when it veered off the roadway and fell into a ditch. The departure from the road caused the Coveys to be ejected from the bike.

Roxanne Covey was transported to an area hospital while Al Covey was taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Police said they are conducting further investigations into the incident to find out what caused the accident in the first place.


West Des Moines police officer killed in car-motorcycle accident

Forty-seven-year-old Police Officer Shawn Miller of the West Des Moines Police Department in Iowa lost his life in a car-motorcycle collision at the intersection of Highway 169 and Interstate 80 in De Soto in Dallas County at around 1:30 p.m. last Wednesday, August 3.

Sergeant Nathan Ludwig of the Iowa State Patrol said that a car, driven by 38-year-old Jeanette Keiffer, was turning onto the I-80 ramp at De Soto when the motorcycle, driven by Miller, collided with its passenger side.

Chief Shaun LaDue, who identified Miller’s body, was in the area of the accident because he was attending court proceedings at the Dallas County Courthouse for a hit-and-run case.

Le Claire motorcycle accident kills two

A motorcycle accident at the intersection of 277th Street and Territorial Road in Le Claire occurred around 7:20 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, according to The Des Moines Register. The accident in Le Claire, which is located about 16 miles north of Davenport, resulted in the death of two people.

According to preliminary investigations made by the Iowa State Patrol, 28-year-old Michael Dann and 25-year-old Trista Nath lost their lives when Dann failed to navigate a turn. Dann lost control of his motorcycle as the pair was heading westbound along a curve on Territorial Road. Both Dann and Nath were ejected from the bike due to the impact of the crash. Neither of the victims, who are both from Dewitt, were wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.

Nashville motorcycle-SUV collision kills one

The Nashville Police Department has reported that a motorcycle-sport utility vehicle collision that occurred at around 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20 on River Road near Indian Creek Road in Nashville resulted in the death of one individual.

The victim was identified as a 17-year-old girl from Iowa. She was riding on the back of her father’s Harley Davidson motorcycle. Her father was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident. He is in critical condition, but has stabilized.

According to preliminary investigators, the motorcycle was navigating a westbound curve on River Road near Indian Creek Road when it collided with a Subaru Forester that was headed east.

Police officers said they found no reason or evidence to believe that the accident was caused by alcohol intoxication or substance impairment.


Muscatine County motorcycle accident injures one

Thirty-five-year-old Columbus Junction in Louisa County, Iowa resident Douglas Mahoney sustained injuries after a motorcycle accident that happened at the intersection of Burlington Road and 275th Street on Eisley’s Hill along U.S. Route 61, a few minutes before 9 p.m. on Monday, June 27.

According to preliminary investigations by the Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office, Mahoney had lost control of his vehicle and veered off the roadway. He was brought by a Louisa County ambulance to a local hospital before being airlifted to another hospital for the treatment of his injuries of an unknown nature.

Griswold man killed in motorcycle-crop sprayer accident

Fifty-six-year-old Griswold, Iowa resident Michael Douglas Noll lost his life after the motorcycle that he was driving ran into  a crop sprayer on Wednesday, June 29 at around 12:50 p.m. on Highway 92.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Noll succumbed to the fatal injuries he sustained at the scene of the accident where the 2010 Harley Davidson that he was operating east along that highway, collided with a 2011 John Deere crop sprayer as it was turning left into a residential driveway, causing the motorcycle to slam into the left wheel of the crop sprayer.

Motorcyclist killed in collision

51-year-old Mason City, Iowa resident Greg Hodak lost his life on Friday, June 17 following a car-motorcycle collision that occurred along Eighth Street Northwest and North Pierce Avenue in Mason City .

According to preliminary investigations made by the Mason City Police Department, Hodak was driving a 2005 Harley-Davidson Sportster when he collided with a 2005 Toyota Corolla that was driven by 74-year-old Mason City resident Susan Pierce. Hodak succumbed to his mortal injuries at Mercy Medical Center in North Iowa. North Pierce Avenue was closed to public traffic for a little while after the incident to make way for cleanup crews and police investigations. The Mason City Fire Department, Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department and Mason City Operations all responded to the accident, and the investigation of the accident is ongoing.

1 dead in Taylor County motorcycle-car collision

An Iowa State Patrol accident report showed that 56-year-old Clearmont, Missouri resident George Peter lost his life when he drove his 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle into the intersection of Lake Road and Highway 2, causing a collision with a 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser on Saturday, June 4.

According to preliminary investigations, Peter was headed north on Lake Road behind a group of motorcycles. Before the intersection, the other motorcyclists stopped at a stop sign, but Peter did not stop and collided with the Chrysler that was headed west and driven by 71-year-old Bedford, Iowa resident Sandra Wakefield. Wakefield sustained minor injuries during the accident and was brought to a hospital in Maryville, Missouri. Reports state that Wakefield was wearing her seat belt.

Man injured in Clear Lake motorcycle accident

A car-motorcycle accident occurred just after 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 2 along the intersection of Grouse Avenue and 275th Street in Clear Lake, Iowa. The accident resulted in one man getting hospitalized.

According to preliminary investigations made by the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, 58-year-old Clear Lake resident Eddie Bergman was riding his motorcycle north on Grouse Avenue when a car driven by 19-year-old Clear Lake resident Jackson Finn came off 275th Street and directly into Bergman’s path, causing Bergman to crash into Finn. Bergman was brought to Mercy Medical Center in North Iowa to stabilize his condition. Police investigators are currently looking into the incident to determine what factors may have contributed to the accident.
